New kids on the block

We haven’t seen these kids for almost two hundred pages! I had to remind myself what they looked like. “Gadje” is the word used in most Romani languages to mean “non-Romani woman.” Gadje/gadjo (male) is a bit like “gaijin” in Japanese – not necessarily offensive or insulting, but very starkly connoting “not one of us.”
This week in fabulous things – my friend and super-talented mutant cartoonist Lucy Knisley has an amazing project up on Indiegogo for just four more days! She’ll visit major landmarks from Oscar Wilde’s life and create one of her thoughtful, charming comic book travelogues about the experience. I love Lucy’s work and I love Oscar Wilde, and when she mentioned this project over a year ago I thought it was approximately the best idea ever. Go help her out!
Also in fabulous comics news – my sharp studiomates Colleen Coover and Paul Tobin have posted the second story in their Bandette digital series over at MonkeyBrain! (Here’s Bandette #1 if you missed it.) “Foiling a bank robbery. Making a boy blush. Stealing the occasional masterpiece. These are all in an day’s work for the teen adventuress known as Bandette!“ For less than a dollar? Yes please.
